Following a successful public consultation earlier this year, Ealing Council are due to start works at the Uxbridge Road / Church Road junction on 20th January 2014.
As someone who lives close to this junction and crosses Church Road on a daily basis, I know how dangerous it is and have long campaigned for safe pedestrian crossings at this junction. Finally, we now have a scheme which aims to deliver a safe pedestrian crossing on all four arms of the junction.
When consulted in March and April, a clear majority of residents (68%) voted in favour of a scheme to improve this junction.
The works taking place will include:-
-A new mini roundabout to replace the traffic lights;
-Two new signal pedestrian crossings on the Uxbridge Road;
-Two new zebra crossings on Church Road and St George’s Road;
-New pavement, road resurfacing, drainage improvements and road markings.
These works are planned for completion by the end of April 2014.
Unfortunately, residents may face some inconvenience during the construction and road closures may be required for up to 1 week to enable road resurfacing, but these works are expected to be undertaken at night and at the end of the works programme.
Nevertheless, I hope that you agree with me, once the works have been completed, that the implementation of this scheme is likely to be very good news.
